Civil War and the “New Lincoln?”

February 23, 2009

“The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people.”

As of this week, 25 states have introduced resolutions declaring their sovereignty under the 10th Amendment.

What does that mean? The resolution from Missouri essentially says “because of initiatives like FOCA, we feel it necessary to remind the federal government that they can’t take away the state’s right to legislate.”

New Hampshire says that unless the federal government stops overstepping their bounds, they will secede from the Union.

Arizona is making theirs an official cease and desist order.
“This Resolution serves as notice and demand to the federal government, as our agent, to cease and desist, effective immediately, mandates that are beyond the scope of these constitutionally delegated powers.”

Some of the specific acts that they are citing as overstepping the bounds are:
– the Freedom of Choice Act
– a proposed 500% tax on ammo, widespread gun confiscations
– a draft of 18-22 year olds, declaring martial law
– the stimulus package, that puts us an extra $1 trillion in debt, for stuff like birth control funding, socialized health care, socialized childcare, socialized etc.

Missouri passed theirs on February 11. As of now, 15 other states have officially passed their bills affirming sovereignty. Have you heard anything about it on the news? Nothing. Nothing on CNN, Fox, ABC, MSNBC…

I found one video online of a news show covering it.

For more information, here’s a good news article (from a Christian news site, the only kind that will actually report on this).

Here’s a site keeping a running tally of the states standing their ground.

Lastly,  here’s the Catechism (CCC 1883):

Socialization also presents dangers. Excessive intervention by the state [i.e. government] can threaten personal freedom and initiative. The teaching of the Church has elaborated the principle of subsidiarity, according to which “a community of a higher order should not interfere in the internal life of a community of a lower order, depriving the latter of its functions, but rather should support it in case of need and help to co- ordinate its activity with the activities of the rest of society, always with a view to the common good.”

Isn’t it interesting that Obama has been trying to present himself as the “new Lincoln?” Lincoln fought to protect the constitution, and ended up in civil war. Depending on what Obama’s reaction to this is, he could START one. One way or another, the states won’t let him push them around. I love our country right now.
